Cleaning your Gravity Flow Lid (insulated bottles)

Base: All Bivo bottles are made from 100% recycled stainless steel. We love stainless steel because it's lightweight but durable and keeps a nice clean taste for the water/drink inside.
Lid: The lids are made from post-consumer recycled BPA-free plastic. We do lots of chemical testing on our materials, including the small amount of plastic we use. You can find all of our chemical testing information on our website: HERE.
Pro tip: keep the lid in the top rack so it doesn’t fall down into the washing mechanism of the machine
Nozzle, Straw, Gasket: These high-contact areas are all made from food-grade silicone which meets the higher European standards for quality testing. We made these silicone parts easily removable on each bottle to get the best possible clean. The silicone gaskets are slightly different on each lid, which is explained below.

We made all of our lids easy to disassemble, clean and reassemble. We have three models: Large Gravity Flow, Small Gravity Flow, and the newest Ventura Lid! The lids are very similar but there are some differences which are important for cleaning.

Compatible with insulated bottles: the Trio 21oz and Trio 17oz
It's easy to clean your Ventura Lid!
The lid gasket for these bottles is found on the inside of the lid. The strap can also be fully removed for cleaning. Here is a picture showing how to remove this gasket and strap during the cleaning process.

Start by taking the lid off and removing the silicone components. The straw comes apart from the lid with a gentle pull and the nozzle can be popped out as well. To take the nozzle out, I recommend starting in the “open” position. Gently pull the nozzle up to open, and then with the palm of your hand, push the nozzle to the side and out of its place. It should pop out relatively easily with some practice.
Finally, the gasket can be removed. For insulated bottles, pull up in the small pull tab inside the lid and the gasket should pull out easily. For uninsulated bottles, gently pull the gasket to stretch it before pulling it off. Ta-da, a disassembled Bivo, ready for cleaning!

As previously mentioned, Bivo water bottles are dishwasher safe. So you can pop all of the components of the bottle (base, lid, and silicone parts) into the dishwasher, keeping small items like the lid on the top rack. While stainless steel doesn’t absorb flavor or scents, we still prefer using unscented dish soap to ensure the cleanest taste.
Pro Tip: I like to put the silicone parts in with the silverware so it doesn’t get lost!
If you prefer to wash by hand, warm soapy water will work great. Use a bristled brush to reach the bottom of the bottle and a sponge to clean the lid for a nice close clean. In the design process, we removed any unnecessary nooks and crannies to ensure a smooth clean and nowhere mold could hide!

“But wait, how do I clean the straw??” Don’t worry, we thought of this too! Inside each Bivo bottle is a cleaning squeegee for the straw. To use this, pull the squeegee through the straw allowing the ridges to pick up any gunk that may have been left behind from sugary electrolyte drinks. Also, the straw is dishwasher safe in case you prefer cleaning that way.

Pro Tip: If there is any taste lingering on the straw from electrolyte drinks, this can easily be remedied by placing these silicone parts in the oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. Simply place the parts on a baking tray and in the oven. Repeat this process as needed.

Now, your Bivo bottle is nice and clean and ready to take on its next adventure. Make sure all of the parts are dry before reassembling. Place the gasket back in the lid. HERE is a video showing how to put this part back efficiently. Then, connect the straw back to the lid. And finally, pop the nozzle back into place on the lid. Voila! A clean Bivo!

Love my bottle but…..Any chance you are going to make the outside of the bottle scratch proof. Even with the screws you supply, my beautiful bottle is all scratched up after one ride. Maybe a sleeve or a silicone material?
