We Made Butter Inside A Bivo Bottle

September 10th, 2026 | by Caitlin Boyarsky

Is there anything better than sweet summer corn? Maybe sweet summer corn with some freshly homemade butter on top! Robby and Carina recently invited the Bivo team over for a BBQ at their house. And we heard there would be corn on the menu, we had a lightbulb moment. What if we made butter for the corn inside a Bivo? And so, the Bivo team headed out on what we’re calling a “Bivo Butter Run”. Our results were shocking... and needless to say, our contribution to the BBQ was a total hit.

Want to know how to make butter inside a Bivo? It's shockingly easy!

Step one: Gather your ingredients

Step one: Gather your ingredients

Making butter is actually not that hard. You just need one ingredient: heavy cream (and a bit of willpower). We had heard rumors about a viral “butter run” trend and decided this would be the perfect excuse for us to get outside and test the limits of what’s possible for our bottles.

Our first step was gathering our ingredients. This was easy since there was only one: Heavy cream. Once that was acquired, we each picked our butter-making vessel. For science reasons, we decided to try out the different models of Bivo bottles (insulated and non-insulated) to see which would work best. We filled the bottle with a couple inches of heavy cream. And sealed them shut.

Step two: Pick a Route

Step two: Pick a Route

Next, we decided on our route. We concluded, from some brief internet research, that we would need to run for roughly an hour if we wanted the best results. We also wanted maximum movement for the heavy cream, so we picked a route that took us on some trails. Keeping things moving.

To carry our Bivos we also tried a few different methods. (Don’t worry about the fact that this is no longer a controlled experiment, that’s not really how we do things around here). Some people stuffed the bottle into their hip pack, others carried the bottle by hand. I found the running vest to be the most comfortable, so I was able to keep the bottle up against my back.

Step three: Get to shaking!

Step three: Get to shaking!

And so, we set off on our journey. Bivos in-hand (and in-back?). We got to work on shaking right away. Jumping off sidewalks and tree stumps along our path, in an attempt to start the churning process. We ran about a mile down the road when we decided to perform our first check. Keaton and Sam pulled out their Bivos (Trio 17oz and Trio 21oz respectively) and checked inside. What we saw had our jaws on the floor. The butter was forming! The heavy cream had started to solidify a bit from liquid to more of a whipped cream texture. Not quite butter yet though, so we kept going.

Our next stop was about ¼ of a mile further down the trail. This time, Lily pulled out her Bivo (a Bivo One 21oz) and saw something we were all not expecting so soon: Butter! We had only been running for about 15 minutes and had already formed what looked to be butter. The rest of the crew eagerly checked their Bivos as well. Things were moving along quicker than we expected, so we decided to turn our run around early. Our finished product was just a short jog away now!

Step four: Enjoy your reward

Step four: Enjoy your reward

When we got back to the office, we all checked our final results. To all of our amazement, we had all made butter! Some butter was more buttery than others, but it was butter nonetheless.

The final step was separating the remaining liquid to reveal the solid butter. All it took was a light squeeze over a bowl and voila! Butter! (Add a pinch of salt to the finished product for maximum tastiness).

Now it was time to enjoy our feast. The butter was a total hit at the barbeque. Perfectly soft and spreadable for our fresh corn on the cob. Delicious!
