Gravel and Mountain Bike Riding in Richmond, VT

When we chose a home for Bivo, we had three non-negotiables; trail access right out the door, an airport within 20 minutes and skiing (nordic and alpine—but let’s be honest, nordic took priority) within 30 minutes.

Richmond is so much more than a convenient home base. Nestled in the Green Mountains, Richmond is a small but mighty town of just over 4,000 people. It's packed with true Vermont charm—historic buildings, wide open views, and a community that lives for the outdoors. At the heart of town sits the iconic Round Church, a 16-sided architectural gem built in 1812.

It’s also home to Cochran’s Ski Area, a beloved, family-run hill that has produced multiple Olympians and generations of passionate skiers. Recognizing the power of movement year-round, Cochran’s embraced mountain biking and created a vast network of trails for the non-snowy months.

Supporting and stewarding that growing trail system is Richmond Mountain Trails, a dedicated local organization that builds, maintains, and advocates for the incredible trail access we enjoy. Thanks to their tireless efforts, Richmond has become a true hub for outdoor adventure.

We’re excited to share a few of our favorite rides that offer a glimpse into the life we’re lucky to live and the trails we love.

Other must-know things prior to heading to town: Grab a post-ride treat at Sweet Simone’s, where you’ll find everything from knockout breakfast pastries to poke bowls and focaccia pizza that rival anything you’d find in a big city. Need a quick tune-up? Belgen Cycles has your back. Looking for a last-minute birthday card (or your next favorite bottle)? Pop into Hey June, a gem of a stationery shop that also happens to sell more Bivo bottles than any other stationery store in the world.

Most of our team lives in Burlington, a short 15–20 minutes away, but weekends draw us all here. Richmond is our hub for adventure—and we’re excited to share a few of our favorite rides that offer a glimpse into the life we’re lucky to live and the trails we love.

The Rides:

Until the next time [ride] ...

We’re all celebrating the return of a true Vermont summer staple. Our beloved Creemee window is opening back up this week! It’s the treat locals dream about all year long and the countdown to day one is officially on.

If it’s your first time and you’re not sure which flavor to try, go for the maple. It’s the classic, the icon, and an absolute must for any Vermont summer adventure. After your ride, swing by and treat yourself to this local favorite before heading out of town. And if you’re nearby, don’t forget to stop into our office and say hello. We’d love to see you.

Cheers - The Bivo Crew
